“Glory to God in the highest heavens, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Luke 2:14

The woman in the Hijab

Summer in a mission community is busy. We served the neediest of God’s children. Whoever showed up was guaranteed food, drink, fellowship and love. One of the volunteers came to me and said there was a woman outside who wasn’t sure she could come in. Outside I met a slight woman wearing a traditional Muslim Hijab. I assured her she was always welcome and invited her in. Over the next several months she became a regular attendee, not only on Sunday but Wednesday and Thursday as we studied the book of Romans and then Luke’s Gospel in preparation for Christmas.

On the second Sunday of Advent there was a commotion in the fellowship area and as I rounded the corner a group of women were surrounding a slight woman wearing a white dress with long grey/white hair. “Pastor look who is here! ” She turned to face me, and I didn’t recognize her. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she asked me if Jesus would accept her if she gave her heart to Him.

I wept too.
