The Good News of Hope – Devotion by Joan Falconer

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

John 14:26

Eight plus years ago when my husband Ian Falconer was in the possession of passing on, an Episcopal Priest friend visited him and prayed over him as he wrapped a Prayer shawl around Ian’s shoulders. As he was doing so tears flowed out of Ian’s eyes. Our friend said as he was leaving, it hurts me to say this but this will be the last time I’ll see Ian.

Low and behold the next day Ian started to rally and became stronger as each day passed. Ian did live for four more years and did God’s work as the Holy Spirit led him.

When Ian did die I was led by the Holy Spirit to start the Prayer Shawl Ministry as our Churches way to show those that are sick, dying or in emotional need to feel and know that God Loves them and is always with them. The Prayer Square became our simple way for the members of our congregation to give out God’s assurance of love to friends, family and strangers. For the past two Christmases we have given out at all our Christmas services red and green Prayer Squares, so our members and visitors will feel and know God’s and our love for them.

Out of the pain of the loss of my beloved husband Ian, God grew a ministry of Hope and Healing for Body and Soul.

With God’s Blessings to all of you, Joan Falconer
