This weekend “we shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,” to use a lyric from an old Gospel hymn. Our abundant joy translates into an overflowing generosity and we, as those Macedonians of old, give first to the Lord. Thank you for your support of the Kingdom work of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in the giving of your time, talents, and tithes! At a point in each service, you will have an opportunity to come forward to place your estimate of giving card into a basket (If you cannot or do not wish to come forward, you can place your card in the offering plates when they are passed.).
As you offer your pledge, I also encourage you to bring your whole self as an offering to God. What is it that you are willing to give to the Lord in the coming year? Do you have a bit of time to volunteer in one of our ministries or with one of our community partners? Is there a special skill that you can share with our staff or members to enhance our corporate life together? Would you teach a class, or help with our children’s Sunday school, or connect regularly with our youth? I bet some of you could sing in the choir or have an instrument at your home—could you offer your gift in one of EPC’s worship services?
In our stewardship theme verses (1 Corinthians 8:1-7), Paul writes that the Christians in Macedonia gave out of their freedom in Christ. They gave voluntarily; they gave according to their means and beyond their means; they even begged for the privilege of sharing in ministry through their gifts. So we also come with the same frame of mind and heart to give of ourselves. Let’s celebrate God’s goodness that brings us abundant joy and allows expressions of overflowing generosity!
